Science 6th Grade

Started teaching at Ransom in 1982!

In general science class, we will study a variety of topics.  We will learn laboratory procedures using the scientific method.  Homework will be any assignments not finished in class.  Tests will be announced in advance.  Grades will be taken from class work, tests, lab assignments, and notebooks.  All students will be required to complete a science fair project during the first semester.

Classroom Rules

Students must behave appropriately in Science Class.  We will be working with many different types of equipment that is often very expensive.  Accidents will happen but students will be held responsible for equipment broken due to bad behavior.
  • Students are required to write their days activity, or assignment in their planner every day with no exceptions.

    • Assignment worksheets are to be placed in their notebook, in order, and recorded on their notebook assignment sheets.

      • Planner and Notebook checks are conducted randomly and a grade for completion is given.

  • When absent, students are expected to make up all assigned work unless excused by me.

    • Any excused work should be documented in their notebook with a written note signed by me or their grade will be affected.

  • Missed tests should be made up by the third day after the student has returned to school.

    • Tests that are not made up will receive a 0 for the recorded grade.

      • Tests should be made up during the student's research class whenever possible.

  • Due to the nature of experiments and lab work, these assignments are normally excused.

    • Occasionally, the students will be asked to make up the experiments during their research class.
