Symphonic Band Challenge

Each member of the Symphonic Band will be assigned a chair ranking based on their

performance of certain music & fundamental scales. Throughout the year if a student

feels they have improved and want to be considered for a higher chair they can challenge

the student who is the next highest chair. Below are the general rules & guidelines for the

“Chair Challenges”.

1. Challenger may only challenge the chair directly in front of him/her.

(ex. 3rd chair challenges, 2nd chair, not 1st chair)

2. Challenger must give at least a 4-day, 3-night notification.

3. Challenger must tell the “Challengee”

    A. The name of the piece (one of your district pieces)

    B. Specific Scale (Concert F, Gflat, G, Aflat, Bflat, C, Dflat, Eflat)

4. Mrs. Walker will select a part from the song chosen by the “challenger” to

perform during the challenge. You must prepare the entire song -  Mrs. Walker

will determine which part to play at the time of the challenge.

5. “Challenger” will tell Mrs. Walker which scale to be performed.

6. The winner may continue to challenge based on the 4-day, 3-night rule.

7. If the “challengee” loses the challenge, he/she may re-challenge in one week.

8. Challenger & Challengee will the know the outcome as soon the challenge is

    completed.

9. Challenges will take place during class.

10. No challenges will be allowed 2 weeks before District MPA. Challenges will resume

once the District MPA is finished.
