Dear Band Parents,
We are starting to see more and more beginner instruments that are a service difficulty issue for
students and parents. These instruments are attractive because of their low price, but are sometimes
unserviceable in most repair shops. Most of these instruments are made in China or India and are
marketed under different brand names through non-traditional music stores. They are also available on the internet.
In some cases, repair facilities do not have the parts and cannot find the manufacturer to order parts. In other cases,
these instruments are broken more than in working condition.
Here are some brands we do not recommend:
Accent Bandfolio Belcrest
Belmonte Bestler Burlington
Cadet Concert Mark II Concert Works
Dixon First Act Heimer
Image Iolite LaFayette
Palentino Parrot Pathfinder
Rhythm Simba Skylark
Steubar Stubbin Windsor
Winston
These instruments are leading to a lot of frustration for students and parents. In order for your child to get a good
start in band, we highly recommend that you purchase your instruments from a reputable music store.
We also recommend that you purchase your instrument from a store in Pensacola. When your instrument
needs repair, it will help to be able to go to the store in which you bought the instrument. Most music stores have
repair warranties, which are very helpful.
Please remember that although these instruments are cheap in price, they are also cheaply made and
are not conducive to success in band.
Please call or email if you have any concerns about your instrument purchase. The Band Room number
is 937-2238 or email ransomband@cox.net
Sincerely,
Janie Walker Patricia Walker
