School Owned Instruments: Rental Fees & Maintenance Responsibilities
1. Students using school instruments must pay a $150 yearly maintenance fee. At least half the fee must be paid before an instrument can be issued.
2. Please read the responsibilities of maintaining your instrument. Students are responsible for the supplies.
3. Students are responsible for keeping up with the mouthpiece. If you lose your mouthpiece, you will be responsible for replacing the mouthpiece.
4. Instruments and mouthpieces must be returned in working condition at the end of the school year.
5. Each instrument receives a thorough cleaning each summer. You are responsible for repair costs due to misuse during the school year.
6. Students who are asked to change to a school instrument will be responsible for the maintenance fee. If you switch, it is ultimately your decision.
7. If you wish to use a second instrument as a practice horn at home, you may do so, if you pay a $25 rental fee for the year.
8. Please treat the instruments with extreme care. School instruments generally cost between $2000 and $3000 to replace. We need to keep the instruments we currently own in the best condition possible.

Damage from mishandling in general – student
Mishandling of brass instruments is the main cause of repair. Such repairs as having to solder braces, break frozen valves/slides, removing dents, replacing lead pipes are the responsibility of the student. It is the responsibility of the student to keep the instrument well oiled with grease or oil.
Any damage to school owned percussion instruments will be the responsibility of the student. Students will be responsible for the repair cost or the cost to replace the instrument/mallet.
