PURPOSE

The purpose of this handbook is to provide each parent and student a general understanding of the policies and procedures of the Ransom Middle School Band.  If you encounter questions regarding this handbook, contact a band director at 937-2238 or by e-mail.

MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of the Ransom Middle School Band to teach solid music fundamentals, appreciation of all musical styles, music vocabulary, the skills necessary to continue in music, and above all, the enjoyment of music.

PERSONAL INSTRUMENTS

Personal instruments are defined as those belonging to individual students, not Ransom Middle School.  The individual is responsible for maintaining the instrument and providing the necessary supplies.  You are responsible for any repairs.  It is also your responsibility to keep the instrument locked in your locker.

SCHOOL INSTRUMENTS

School instruments belong to Ransom Middle School and the School District of Escambia County.  School instruments include: tubas, euphoniums, French horns, bass clarinets, bassoons, tenor saxophones, baritone saxophones and various percussion instruments.  Once you are assigned an instrument, it is YOUR responsibility to provide the necessary supplies.  You must also make the director aware of any needed repairs to the instrument.

You must pay at least half the instrument rental fee BEFORE the instrument can be issued to you.  You will be responsible for payment of repairs during the school year. Please refer to the maintenance guide for which repairs you are responsible.

ADVANCED STUDENTS

In the handbook, Advanced Students are referred to as students in Symphonic & Concert Bands.
