Instrument Inspection

Each student will begin the nine weeks with 100 points. Inspections are similar to “pop quizzes”.  Inspections can be given with or without notice.  Five points will be deducted for failure to meet the requirements as listed on the supply page.

Performances/Rehearsals

As we approach the holiday season, district festival and the spring semester, concert performance will become a part of the nine weeks grading period. Concerts will count as “final exams” in band.  Participation in scheduled performances will count as a grade of 100 points. The full 100 points will be given to each student who is on time for performance with all the necessary materials. A student who is tardy, missing necessary materials or the incorrect uniform will have 20 points deducted from their grade.

Symphonic & Concert: Students must wear the appropriate attire to all performances.  When the uniform is worn, students must wear their band t-shirt/shorts under the uniform & wear band shoes and black calf high socks.

In the case that the Ransom Band uniform is not worn for a performance, the following attire must be worn:

Boys: Dress Pants & Shirt, Nice Shoes, Belt

NO JEANS ALLOWED & SHIRTS MUST BE TUCKED IN WITH A BELT.

Girls: Dress, Skirt, or Dress Pants & Shirt

Intermediate:  The Band Shirt must be worn with tan/khaki pants. Please wear nice                                    shoes. No tennis shoes. Shirts must be tucked in with a belt.

Beginning Band: The Band Shirt must be worn with tan/khaki pants. Please wear nice                                  shoes. No tennis shoes. Shirts must be tucked in with a belt. Girls                                              please no skirts or capri pants.

If for some reason a student feels he or she has a legitimate excuse for missing a scheduled performance, the director must be notified 10 days in advance. In case of an unforeseen emergency, the student is expected to bring a written excuse upon returning to school.

A missed performance will constitute a grade of 0 until the written excuse is received. Excused absences include student illness, family emergency, or reasons deemed worthy by the director. Baseball, football, etc. games are not excusable.

There are three consequences of missing a performance.

  1. Missing a performance without a legitimate reason will prohibit the student from participation in the Spring Band Trip. (Please note: There are no trip refunds.)
  2. Absences from performances will earn the student a zero for the performance grade.
  3. The student may be moved to a different band class for the rest of the year.
