RANSOM MIDDLE SCHOOL
GENERAL INFORMATION --- 2007- 2008

IMPORTANT - MEDICATION
Florida State law requires that a special form be filled out and signed by the physician and parent/guardian of each student on medication. This form must be on file in the school clinic before a student can take any medication at school. All physicians have copies of this form. This also includes non-prescription medication such as asprin. The medicine must be properly labeled with the original label and must be stored and taken in the school clinic. Whenever possible, only dosage to be taken during school hours may be sent each week.

SCHOOL HOURS
The school day for students begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Students will not be allowed on campus before 8:30 a.m.
LUNCHES
Regular lunch price is $2.15.
Papa John's Pizza (1.35) is available for our students.
Lunches can be prepaid for one week only ($15.00); there will be no charging for lunches.
Free and Reduced Lunch Forms, by law, must be filled out each year. Please make sure the school has the current information.
There is a new MealPay internet program which allows you to pay for your student's lunches.
In order to access this program you must have your student's I.D. number. This number is on the front of your welcome letter. Information about this program will be sent home to you during the first week of school.
You can also access this program by clicking on the link on the school's web site home page.
IMPORTANT DRESS CODE ITEMS
1. Shorts, skirts or dresses must be no more than two (2) inches above the knee. The opening or slits of skirts may be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
2. The waistband of shorts, slacks, skirts and similar garments shall not be worn below the waist or in such a manner as to expose undergarments.
3. Students may not wear midriffs, tank tops, halter-tops or shirts with spaghetti straps to school. No undergarments should be visible.
4. Footwear that is deemed hazardous or dangerous, such as bedroom slippers, or cleats shall not be worn.
The complete dress code is printed in the Students Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
PICK-UP OR DROP-OFF OF STUDENTS
Parents picking up or dropping off students will enter through the east gate and exit through our new gate (TRAFFIC IS ONE WAY). Pick-up and drop-off area is in the front of the school across from the teachers' parking lot. The west gate is reserved for school buses only.
PTSA
Ransom has a very active Parent Teacher Student Association. We want to invite all parents and students to join our PTSA. Membership is only $5.00. We will have a membership table available during orientation and at other activities during the school year.
SPECIAL CHECK OUT INSTRUCTIONS
If your child requires special check-out instructions, please notify the main office in writing on "Orientation Day" or by the first week of school. Any student who needs to check out during the school day must be checked out by a parent. There will be no check-outs taken over the phone. There will also be no check-outs after 3:00 p.m. We are required to see a photo I.D. before a student can be checked out.
ATTENDANCE
ALL absences must be called in each day that a student is absent (937-2220 ex. 315). When the student returns to school, he/she MUST bring a note from either a parent or doctor. It is the responsibility of the student to make up all work that has been missed. Any student who is tardy for school MUST be checked in by a parent. After three (3) consecutive absences, a Doctor's not is required to return to school in order to receive an excused absence.
PHONE USE AND CELL PHONE POLICY
There is a phone in the Guidance Office for EMERGENCY USE only. If your student needs to make arrangements to go home with another student, these arrangements must be made before arriving at school. NO phone mesage will be given to students after 2:30.
Students may have cell phones; however, ALL cell phones must be turned off and out of sight.

If cell phones are used or prove to be a disprution, the students will be asked to turn the device off and put it away. Subsequent violations of this policy could result in administration action being taken. Please contact the school for further information.

ADDRESS CORRECTIONS
If you have moved, please send in a utility bill with your name and your current address so that we can correct it in our computer. If you are not planning to attend Ransom, please notify the Guidance Office Immediately!! If you live out of Ransom's school district, you must have the appropriate approval before registering.
P.E. UNIFORMS
Students do not need to bring shorts or shirts for P.E. the first day of school. Instructions will be given to them during the P.E. class the first week of school.
